In 2016, Rising Sun and Accenture established a partnership that supported Rising Sun’s youth program, Climate Careers, supporting the training of 72 youth in San Joaquin and Solano Counties and the development of a Rising Sun mobile app that saved time and reduced paper waste during Green House Calls.
Because of Accenture’s early support, youth participants were able to install energy and water efficiency improvements to 1,501 households in San Joaquin and Solano counties in 2016. These installs lowered CO2 emissions and increased residential resource conservation.
Through pro bono support, Accenture developed a mobile platform (app) to help track all the information gathered during the youth-operated Green House Calls. This new technology replaced the use of inefficient paper forms which required a manual upload into the program database following each service. Additionally, this app benefitted the youth by providing them with skills and experience utilizing technology for business purposes. Accenture enabled the Climate Careers program to be more efficient, allowing more time for program staff to mentor the youth participants.
When Dan Carrington, Managing Director at Accenture, joined Rising Sun’s board in 2017, a visionary partnership was established. With his leadership and expertise, Rising Sun gained insight, knowledge, and guidance that have impacted Rising Sun programs, work, and culture. In Dan’s words,
“Accenture is focused on improving the ways people work and live. One of our corporate citizenship initiatives, Skills to Succeed, advances employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for individuals around the globe. Our goal by 2020 is to equip more than 3 million people with the skills they need to secure a job or build a business. Rising Sun Center for Opportunity is a powerful force for positive change in Bay Area communities, and our partnership gives us new and exciting opportunities to achieve our Skills to Succeed goals locally. We are thrilled with the relationship and to be working with a real game-changing organization.”
Accenture also works on strategic volunteer projects with Rising Sun throughout the year; for example, Accenture took lessons learned from its own office move in 2018 to provide guidance to Rising Sun during its office move several months later.
This partnership has evolved continuously over the years, and Accenture has been involved from the ground level all the way to the top. It’s not all work and no play: Accenture has hosted and participated in pasta feed dinners before fundraising races, volunteer engagement days, award ceremonies, and happy hours with Rising Sun. Accenture staff can always be seen at Rising Sun events, donating their time to help garner community support and to make sure things run smoothly.
Accenture’s most recent contributions to Rising Sun provided tools and resources for successful change management and marketing. Accenture’s financial and in-kind support made Rising Sun’s Grand Opening and re-brand a huge success.
Accenture is a supporter, advocate, friend, and true changemaker. With 5 Accenture employees at varying levels within the organization committed to supporting the partnership with Rising Sun year-round and countless others eager to jump in to support specific activities, the partnership is as strong as ever.
