The Green Energy Training Services (GETS) program trains adults (Age 18+) for entry-level jobs in energy efficiency and Building Performance.  During three weeks of training, GETS provides 80 hours of classroom and hands-on training on the basics of building science, jobsite safety, use of diagnostic tools used to perform energy audits, and installation of energy efficiency measures in homes.  GETS training is FREE, and is the first step in a green career helping homeowners and commercial buildings save energy.  GETS graduates are prepared for entry-level positions as energy efficiency or weatherization installers and technicians, energy auditors, air sealers and insulation installers, building maintenance technicians, or HVAC technicians.

Rising Sun is actively recruiting Berkeley residents for the next GETS training, which begins March 28.  To qualify, individuals must have a high school diploma or GED, 8th grade reading/writing/math ability, legal eligibility to work in the U.S., and be low-income or unemployed.  Interested applicants should attend an information session to learn more about the program, complete an application, and take a math and reading test.  There are two upcoming information sessions, February 10 and March 10 from 1:00-3:00pm at 2033 Center Street in Downtown Berkeley.

Rising Sun is also recruiting participants for a special GETS training for English language learners.  This training lasts 6 weeks, beginning March 7 and ending April 14.  The first three weeks of class focus on English language training, and take place in the evening, from 5:00-8:00pm.  The second three weeks of class focus on technical skills training, and take place during the day, from 8:00am to 3:00pm.  This GETS ESL class is FREE, and available to residents of Alameda and Contra Costa County.  Applicants must take an English skills assessment and pass a math test, have a California drivers license or state ID, and must be legally eligible to work in the United States.  Anyone interested in the GETS ESL class must attend an info session on February 17 from 10:00am to noon at 500 23rd Street @ Barrett in Richmond.
