On Friday, July 14th, Rising Sun’s Leader In Field Training (LIFT) members took a trip to San Francisco and went to Accenture. Accenture hosted a professional development training for us leaders to help sharpen our tools on practicing interviews and landing your next job. During our time there, we went through the process of:
- What to do before getting an interview
- What to say during the interview
- What questions to ask afterward
We ended the training with mock interviews. I felt like this exercise was most effective for me because it helped me learn things I didn’t know before. I learned I should have multiple resumes printed and ready for the employer upon arriving for the interview. I also learned that it’s a good idea to research the company before the interviewing process. By researching the company beforehand it will prepare me to answer any questions related to the company. I will apply what Accenture taught me and use it toward my career in the future because it aligns with my goals. In the future, I want to be a Sports Agent.

Not only was this professional development trip super valuable for me, but I was also able to network with Accenture staff members. Reflecting on the type of work Accenture does, it really made me figure out what areas in my life I need to focus on improving in order to become successful. One of the qualities I enjoyed learning about Accenture is that the company offers a variety of different services such as Marketing, Finance, and Communication. If I am to be successful and stick to my career goal those are all the things I’ll have to master.
I really want to learn more about finance. I’d like to learn more about finance because I am very good at it now. I imagine that the benefits of learning about finance would be that I would learn how to create and save money, invest, learn about the stock trade, and I’d learn how to budget. This skill alone could help me with my career goal to become a sports agent.

Another thing I want to get more experience in is marketing. I have minimal experience and I feel that I can be very good in that department. There is still room for improvement as far as my communication skills go. I’ll have to find ways to be able to use my words in a more desirable way and I’ll have to learn how to speak in front of an audience with even more confidence than I have now. Mastering all of these qualities will further my growth and help me get closer to my goals.
At Rising Sun I am presented with people who want to help me achieve my goal and see me succeed in the future.
Had I not attended this trip I am not sure I would have reflected on these qualities and ultimately given myself short term goals to work on. With Rising Sun’s help, I know I can polish my communication skills, learn more about finance, and gain marketing skills.
