After working with Rising Sun’s California Youth Energy Services (CYES) program for over 3 years, I have contributed to our society in a vast way. This program constantly renovates its resource conservation measures. This year California Youth Energy Services concluded that installing LED lights is the best measure to ensure energy efficiency. LED lights use less energy and produce brightness around 5 times more than a CFL light.  I am proud to have been able to educate and help community members conserve energy and save money.

For three years the CYES program has given me great tools. Tools that allowed me to become a passionate mentor, and mentee. I’ve been able to learn tactics and skills that enable me to present myself to customers. CYES trained me to become an educator for my community. During Green House Calls I educate clients about sustainability. I explain the importance of caring about our planet and provide them with tips.

For three years I have been able to see the youth I mentor evolve. There are no words to describe seeing the youth develop and improve their social skills. It is a great sight to behold as you teach them the ins and outs of the true value of this program. It’s even more astonishing at the end of the program. When you look at their own neat tricks and tools they develop to help comfort the customer. An example of a trick I’ve seen them develop to ensure customer relationship is when handing out the gifts. We often provide our clients with gifts such as power strips and night lights. Some Energy Specialists give customers the gifts and end their service, but my team goes the extra mile and makes sure to always provide them with a demonstration.

Rising Sun has changed my perspective of what it means to foster a healthy and green earth. Before the started the program I didn’t care about the planet. I always thought the environment would never affect me, but boy was I wrong. Everything I do and others do affect the planet in every way possible. Our actions alter the earth’s climate. Small behavioral changes like turning off the sink while brushing your teeth really does help save water. It also helps save the energy that it takes to get the water running. Tips like these are what we teach the community.

I’m thankful for the CYES program for giving me a great opportunity. Here I can shape my professional skills and be an active community member who helps save the earth
