Hi – this is George, the GETS Training and Employment Manager.  And this is my first blog on the Rising Sun blog!

So in case you are curious what an Employment and Training Manager does, here’s a brief description.  50% of my time is spent building relationships with employers (phone calls, face-to-face meetings, shaking hands, etc.) so they come to me when they have openings.  When I find job openings, I gather info on what they are looking for and then refer our program grads who are the best fit.  Pretty simple, right?  Ah, if it was only that easy…I will have to blog on all of the opportunities for creative thinking I encounter on a later blog.

The rest of my time is spent making sure our training is the best, most up-to-date and most effective training program it can possibly be.   This means I get to get into all of the technical details of Building Performance and Energy Efficiency, work with industry experts, write curriculum, go to trainings, etc.  Pretty fun stuff, actually.  I love my job because it gives me the opportunity to get out into the community and build relationships (which is awesome) but I also get to totally “geek out” with all of the Building Science (which is also pretty awesome).

Ok, enough for now!  Back to work!

George
